Tempting to go Temping?

November 28th, 2008

When faced with a return to work after a period of staying at home with your children, or if you are stuck in a dead end job, it can seem daunting to think about taking on a new permanent role anywhere. After all, how do you know that you will like it?  You may find that it is a case of being worse than your previous position or if you are a working mother, you could actually find that the hours do not actually suit your childcare arrangements. So what do you do? Well you temp, that’s what you do!

It really is tempting to go temping? You get really flexible working arrangements, you don’t have to worry about office politics, or being the boss’s favourite, or even having to take on responsibilities that you aren’t paid for. No, you can just smile and say ‘I’m a temp’ and you will find that all the things that used to get you down about your old job simply melt away and if you don’t like the position that you are offered, then you try another one!

Temping is a great way of working in different environments with no commitment, you also get some great rates of pay. You wont even have to worry about going through the recruitment process, you just turn up, learn the rope, then move on again, or stay if your skills are required and you want to stay on.

There are lots of different recruitment agencies to help get you started as a temp and you should look on it as a real opportunity to have flexibility in your career. Yes it is easy to sit and be stuck in the same old office job, but temping will help you readily adapt to different working environments and really sharpen up your inter-personal skills, no matter how good you think they are already. So what are you waiting for, give in to temptation and start temping!
